Cathedral Santa María

The Metropolitan Cathedral of Santa María la Real, seat of the Archdiocese of Pamplona and Tudela, is a unique ecclesiastical architectural ensemble, because it is the most complete cathedral complex that is preserved in Spain. It presents the usual buildings in other cathedrals as church, cloister and sacristy.

 

Its religious importance mark an important matter since the cathedral houses the chair of the bishop being the head of the churches of the diocese and the center of his liturgical life. Its artistic value is considered as Gothic monumental ensemble of Navarre, being one of the most significant cloister. Its historical value is significant for the role it played in the ancient Reyno of Navarre, by hosting the coronations of their kings, royal marriages and the burial of many of them.
